Badami Delight

You have started from Bagalkot and your first stop is Badami. You have only one day to see the triple wonders of Badami, Pattadakal and Aihole. It is hot and the area is drought affected. You drive into the dusty town and abruptly turn left into the parking lot. The parking lot seems to be at the foot of this ravine with sandstone hills rising on either side. On the right, the red rocky outcrop rises almost vertically housing the rock-cut temples. On the top of this South Hill sits the Badami Fort. Few yards straight ahead to the parking lot is the lake called Agastya Teertha hemmed in between the two hills. On the left of the lake is the North Hill of Badami. North Hill also has fort ramparts, few temples, guard posts and the ASI Museum. The forts were initially built by Chalukyas & Rashtrakutas and then Tipu Sultan installed cannons and his treasury to the original structures. On the west, the town is threatening to push into the lake with houses built on the edge of the lake. Beware of a snarling dog that apparently dislikes city slickers and is ready to chew your neck. Into the east, you can see the Bhootnath Temple complex built on the edge of the lake with another hill rising behind it. Kids bathe in the cool lake water and women wash laundry spreading it on the steps.

संग्रहालय के मुख्य द्वार से अन्दर घुसा तो देखा कि टिकट खिड़की बन्द है। मुख्य भवन के बाहर भी नाना प्रकार की सैंकड़ों मूर्तियां वहां पर सुसज्जित देख कर मैने कैमरा निकाला और बकौल नन्दन झा, न्रीक्षण-प्रीक्षण शुरु हो गया। एक सज्जन मेरे पास आकर बोले, कैमरे का टिकट ले लीजियेगा, अपना भी। अभी थोड़ी ही देर में टिकट काउंटर खुल जायेगा। मैने पूछा कि तब तक मैं क्या करूं? इंतज़ार करना पड़ेगा? वह बोला, “नहीं, नहीं, आराम से देखिये, जहां भी चाहें, फोटो खींचिये। मेन बिल्डिंग में भी बहुत कुछ है। रास्ता इधर से है।” धन्यवाद कह कर मैं बेधड़क इधर-उधर घूमता फिरता रहा और एक डेढ़ घंटे में पूरा संग्रहालय उलट-पुलट कर देख डाला।

We also took tickets for a round trip in boat. These tickets were valid for one hour for return journey. It means we had sufficient time to bath and roam at another side of Ganga Ji. The boat took us to another bank in just few minutes. As it was Baisakhi day, a lot of people were taking bath on Eastern Ghats. We also took bath in Holy Ganga ji.

On this hike, we saw hundreds of marine iguanas and we were less than 5 feet away from them. We walked past sea lions happily lazing in the sun. We saw the bones of a whale which were collected by the rangers of the Galapagos National Park. We saw the great blue heron and also watched a Galapagos hawk catch a marine iguana and eat it when it was alive. (Ewww Gross!)

Cycle Rickshaws are available from this point for Municipality Garden, Library Chowk, Kempty bus stand etc. These Rickshaws are not allowed in market area beyond this point .Horse riding is also available from this point and it was allowed in market area also. We took some snacks there and after spending some good time there we start returning to our hotel through same market again.

Finding Delhi – Sunder Nursery

Sunder Bagh, then known as Azim Bagh housed rare plant species from different British colonies across the world. It was also used to experiment with trees that were proposed to be planted in the new city. About 1500 shady trees we see today along the wide roads of Lutyens’s Delhi came from this nursery. Those days, Azim Bagh stood on the historic Grand Trunk Road between Humayun Tomb and Purana Qila.

आज की शाम – मुकेश भालसे के नाम !

सुबह शंख ध्वनि, घंटे – घड़ियाल की मंगल ध्वनि से आंख खुली तो देखा कि 7 बज रहे हैं। कविता घर में बने हुए अपने मंदिर से बाहर आ चुकी थीं और बच्चों को हिला-हिला कर जगा रही थीं कि घूमने चलना है अतः अलस त्यागो और फटाफट तैयार हो जाओ ! बच्चे पहले तो उठने के मूड में नहीं थे क्योंकि रविवार का छुट्टी का दिन था पर जब ध्यान दिलाया गया कि पिकनिक पर जाना है तो फटाफट बिस्तर में से निकल आये। शिवम्‌ को यह भी लालच दिया गया कि नीचे चल कर कार की सफाई में भी उसकी सहायता ली जायेगी। लड़कों को पता नहीं क्यों ऐसे अजीबो-गरीब कामों में बहुत मज़ा आता है। मेरे बेटे भी जब छोटे थे तो खेल – खिलौनों के बजाय प्लास, पेचकस, संडासी जैसे सामान में अधिक रुचि लेते थे।

मुकेश ने गैराज़ में से अपनी शेवरले स्पार्क निकाली और फिर शिवम्‌ के साथ एक बाल्टी पानी, कुछ अखबार और डस्टर आदि लेकर नीचे पहुंचे। मैं भी अपना कैमरा उठाने लगा तो बोले, अभी इसका क्या काम ! जाने में तो अभी दो घंटे हैं। मैने कहा कि पिकनिक तो उसी समय से शुरु हो जाती है जब हम यह निश्चय कर लेते हैं कि पिकनिक पर जाना है। उसके बाद में की जाने वाली सभी तैयारियां भी पिकनिक का अभिन्न हिस्सा हैं। कार की धुलाई – पुछाई – सुखाई सब इस अविस्मरणीय पिकनिक का अविभाज्य भाग है। इसलिये इन सब की फोटो भी जरूरी है! सब कुछ पिकनिक की भावना से करो तो हर काम में मज़ा आने लगता है। आधा घंटे तक MP 11 CC 0470 कार की मस्का पालिश की गई। फिर ऊपर आकर नहाये – धोये ! कविता तब तक धांसू वाली स्टफ्ड पूरियां और सब्ज़ी बना चुकी थीं जिनका हमने जी भर के भोग लगाया। बच्चों ने कार में सारा सामान बूट में रखा। भोले बाबा को बारंबार प्रणाम करके हम सब फ्लैट से नीचे उतर आये और मुकेश ने कार की चाबी मेरे हाथों में सौंप दी।

इन्दौर – पैदल स्थानीय भ्रमण!

संभवतः तीसरी मंजिल पर जाकर एक ओर खेल कूद की दुकानें और दूसरी ओर खाने पीने के रेस्तरां दिखाई दिये। जेब में हाथ मार कर देखा तो पता चला कि मेरे सारे पैसे तो होटल में ही छूट गये हैं। अब दोबारा किसी भी हालत में होटल जाने और वापिस आने का मूड नहीं था। पैंट की, शर्ट की जेब बार – बार देखी पर एटीएम कार्ड के अतिरिक्त कुछ नहीं मिला। कैमरे के बैग की एक जेब में हाथ घुसाया तो मुड़ा तुड़ा सा १०० रुपये का एक नोट हाथ में आ गया। उस समय मुझे ये १०० रुपये इतने कीमती दिखाई दिये कि बस, क्या बताऊं ! छोले भटूरे का जुगाड़ तो हो ही सकता था। वही खा कर मॉल से बाहर निकल आया। सोचा इस बार सड़क के दूसरे वाले फुटपाथ से वापस होटल तक जाया जाये। सड़क का डिवाइडर पार कर उधर पहुंचा तो एक छोटा सा अष्टकोणीय (या शायद षट्‌कोणीय रहा होगा) भवन दिखाई दिया जिसकी छत पर एक स्तंभ भी था। सभी दीवारों पर जैन धर्म से संबंधित आकृतियां उकेरी गई थीं। यह जैनियों की किसी संस्था का कार्यालय था, जिसमें छोटे-छोटे दो कमरे बैंकों ने एटीएम के लिये किराये पर भी लिये हुए थे। एटीएम देख कर मेरी जान में जान आई और मैने तुरन्त कुछ पैसे निकाल लिये क्योंकि मेरी जेब में अब सिर्फ १० रुपये का ही एक नोट बाकी था।

Located on the former home of the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust, the park is home to a wide range of snakes such as adders, pythons, vipers, cobras and other reptiles. The park gained statutory recognition as a medium zoo from the Central Zoo Authority in 1995.

Chennai Snake Park is next to the Guindy National Park .It is located on Sardar Patel road in Guindy OR the best landmark for this park is that it is just next to IIT Madras. This is one of the eco friendly and environment friendly biological parks that attract many tourists. This park is highly recommended from my side to visit. I always find this park interesting.

The roads are quite narrow and at some stretches only one vehicle can pass thus it is advisable to be quite vigilant and drive safely. The villagers alongside are quite eager to help all through. Just at the end of one of the forks one can see a narrow road leading to Bhim ki dungari and the other towards Jain nashea. taking the left road ends on the red sandstone gate leading to the majestic Jain temple. The view of the main temple is quite soothing standing tall against the backdrop of the setting sun straining through the dark clouds. Just to the left of the road leading to the Jain temple is the Mughal era structure which is believed to be emperor Akhbar’s place of rest during his long hunting expeditions

Coming back towards the fork leads one to Bhim ki dungari. The story dates back to Mahabharat times when the Pandavas were sent to exile and had to live with hidden identities or “agyaatvaas”. The caves were abodes of the Pandavas then. It is believed Bhim stamped his foot on the ground to bring forth a stream of water to quench the thirst of his brothers and wife.
