The Kullu Valley, as all places in the Himalayas showcases natures beauty. It lies between Manali and Largi. The River Beas runs through this charming valley beckoning trekkers, nature lovers, artists and all those who would love to experience fresh mountain air amidst forests of Pine and Deodar and apple orchards.
Kullu has its share of exquisite temples, heritage buildings and sightseeing places like Raghunathji Temple, Bijli Mahadev Temple, Sultanpur Palace, Sujanpur Fort, Deo Tibba to name a few. For those who would like a more activity filled holiday, Kullu offers opportunities for climbing, trekking and river rafting in the months from March to September. December to February is ideal for snow skiing and heli-skiing in Manali. Kullu is also famous for its hand woven shawls and Kullu caps. Kullu is well connected by rail, road and air.
Best time to visit: April to June for trekking, climbing, excursions and river rafting. December to February for snow skiing and heli skiing.

So following our original plan to cover Bijli Mahadev, Rewalsar Lake, Shikari Devi, Kamru Nag Lake, Karsog, Tattapani, we reached Kullu on the morning of 30 July’11. This was the best part of the trip. THE COMPLETE FREEDOM to go anywhere, anytime. I felt like a true ghumakkar OR had my ghumakkar ahaa moment!!
I confess. I did pat on my back for having made the road trip plan, in my car, and not tied it up via air / rail transports.
finally we decided to go to Tirthan valley ,30 km away from Kullu tunnel. Actually, for Manali you have to go to left inside the tunnel and for Tirthan valley you go straight. Road is quite good not bad. We have already booked Gone fishing cottage . Really nice property. Property itself is very natural.

There are two different legends that explains the origin of Kheerganga – One says that Lord Shiva meditated here for thousands of years and another says that Kartikeya, son of Lord Shiva and Parvati meditated here and the natural spring was emerged when Shiva struck the ground with His trishul on Parvati’s request as she was worried that her son wouldn’t get anything to eat here.

Almost 350 KMs out of 474 KMs long Leh – Manali Highway, does not have any civilization, although you would find some tented accommodations and tea stalls at every 30 to 40 KM. It is necessary to carry extra fuel because there is no petrol station from Leh till Tandi (around 365 KMs).

This time, while in India, visit to Himachal was more of necessity than tourism… leaving behind Iceland, Landing in Delhi full of heat and humidity was not a joke…. at the airport itself, we were almost fainted and without waiting for my friend to come to pick up, hired a taxi and went home…the heat and humidity was unbearable as the body had tuned to climate of Iceland…. so to go back to Iceland settings, Himachal trip was mandatory
