After going some distance , we saw that in lake there was a big balloon like structure near the shore only and kids were packed inside it and they enjoyed floating inside it for sometime. We witnessed the scene for sometime and I asked Pavani if she wanted to experience it. She replied in affirmative as she had not done it before. The ticket rate for this was Rs. 50. I guess it was fun for her.

After relishing the home made graceful dinner, after so long, we started our onward journey to Shirdi at 9 pm, a 250 km drive was supposed to take 5-6 hrs. Kavita on the front seat, immaculately navigated through the zig-zags and soon through the Ghodbander road we were on the Eastern expressway to Nasik. I was told that Mumbaikars often travel on this route on weekends for Shirdi and Nasik at this hour so no issues driving till late night there. On the contrary, I didn’t find much private vehicles and was little uncomfortable regarding the route to Shirdi from Igatpuri which is a single and bumpy 100 km drive. Engulfed with apprehensions of adversities, with three ladies on board, I was a bit skeptic to whether go Shirdi or halt at Nasik which is relatively safer because of the HW throughout. Kavita on the other hand was confident and relaxed about the safety issues. In a state of topsy-turvy, I stopped at a large food joint (not many on this route) at Igatpuri for a stretch, fags & refreshment to ladies. I was pleased to see a few private vehicles parked there, on enquiring most of them revealed of their return journey to Mumbai and suburbs. One Innova driver was however, going Shirdi with ladies on board and assured about a safe journey except that the road from Ghoti to Shirdi is single and mostly dusty and bumpy.
He was on first instance very impressed about knowing us from Delhi. He had once tried luck in Delhi and stayed in Laxmi Nagar for one year was fallen for the city as usual but luck pushed him back because of his mother’s ill health and since then staying in a slum in Khar near Bandra. While chatting, he was extremely happy recalling the names of the Delhi-NCR localities, praising proudly, every thing about his lavish life style way back in 2002-03 during his stay in Delhi.

Omkareshwar , one the 12 revered Shiv temples ( Jyoteerling) is actually on an island called Mandhata in Narmada. On the south bank you will find the Mamaleshwar also among the 12. The town is similar to all temple towns all over India, full of small lanes packed with Pooja shops and hotels, a free passage to all living animals including humans, devotees and pestering priests and in addition there were flocks of flies as the monsoon special. Omkareshwar is a modern looking temple from the outside however we know the place is ancient and there are ornate pillars inside the temples which give a glimpse of the old temple. Everything inside the temple is to ensure that you should not feel peaceful. The ceramic tiles, the water abhishek mechanism where water goes in a tube and then gets poured on the shivlinga, the overbearing crowd of priests offering a menu card of abhishek in various types and costs. The only time you find solace is when you come out and look at the serene Narmada. That is the real ‘Darshan’ for me.
Mamaleshwar on the other bank is visible from this side with its ornate high shikhar and a red flag fluttering to show the location amongst the crowd of several other small temples and houses. All built in red sandstone, Mamaleshwar has that special quality of providing a devotional experience to the visitor. The temple is typical Nagar style with up-swinging Shikhar. There are many small and medium temple structures in the clean premise. The elaborate door frames and beautiful sculptures on the outer walls of temples are worth a watch. In the premise, we also find several pieces of temple structure strewn away. A lone ‘amalak’ the round top of the shikhar, some carvings and ‘chandrasheela’ – an ornate step to get into the Garbhagriha are all there stashed away, silently suffering the passage of time.

महाकाल के दर्शनो के बाद हम लोगों ने नाश्ता किया और नाश्ते के बाद हमने एक ऐसे ऑटो कि तलाश शुरू कि जो हमें जंतर मंतर , जिसे वेधशाला भी कहते हैं , ले जाए। हमारी गाडी का समय दोपहर का था और उसमे अभी काफी समय था इसलिए हम लोग जंतर मंतर घूमना चाहते थे । आज रंग पंचमी का दिन था और यहाँ काफी धूम धाम थी। जैसे हमारे उतर भारत में होली मनाई जाती है वैसे ही यहाँ रंग पंचमी। इसलिए ज्यादातर दुकाने बंद थी और जो खुली थी वो भी सिर्फ कुछ घंटो के लिए। आज रंग पंचमी होने के कारण ऑटो भी काफी कम थे। जो थे वो ज्यादा पैसे मांग रहे थे। आखिर कुछ मोलभाव के बाद एक ऑटोवाला हमें जंतर मंतर / वेधशाला होते हुए रेलवे स्टेशन जाने के लिए 150 रुपये में मान गया। हम ऑटो में सवार हो अपनी नयी मंजिल जंतर मंतर / वेधशाला की ओर चल दिए ।
ऑटो वाला हमें उज्जैन की कुछ सुनसान सडकों से घुमाता हुआ 15-20 मिनट में जंतर मंतर ले आया। सुनसान सडकों पर जाने का उसका उदेश्य केवल हमें व अपने नए ऑटो को रंग से बचाना था। हम उसे बाहर प्रतीक्षा करने को कह जंतर मंतर में प्रवेश कर गए। यह स्थान महाकालेश्वर से 3 किलोमीटर की दुरी पर चिंतामन रोड पर स्थित है जहाँ से रेलवे स्टेशन की दुरी मात्र 2 किलोमीटर है। यहाँ प्रति व्यक्ति 10 रूपये प्रवेश शुल्क है। जब हम वहाँ पहुंचे तो हमारे अलावा वहाँ कोई भी नहीं था। अंदर जाकर देखा तो एक व्यक्ति नजर आया जो वहाँ का केअर टेकर था । उसने आकर हमें टिकट दिए और छोटी सी फ़ीस पर खुद ही गाइड का काम करने लगा। उसने हर यंत्र के बारे में बताया जिसमे से हमें थोडा सा समझ आया बाकी सब कुछ सर के ऊपर से निकल गया। हमारे पहुँचने के थोड़ी देर बाद वहाँ कुछ लोग और आने लगे और वो केअर टेकर उनके साथ व्यस्त हो गया।
वेधशाला, उज्जैन:
उज्जैन शहर में दक्षिण की ओर क्षिप्रा के दाहिनी तरफ जयसिंहपुर नामक स्थान में बना यह प्रेक्षा गृह “जंतर महल’ के नाम से जाना जाता है। इसे जयपुर के महाराजा जयसिंह ने सन् 1733 ई. में बनवाया। उन दिनों वे मालवा के प्रशासन नियुक्त हुए थे। जैसा कि भारत के खगोलशास्री तथा भूगोलवेत्ता यह मानते आये हैं कि देशांतर रेखा उज्जैन से होकर गुजरती है। अतः यहाँ के प्रेक्षागृह का भी विशेष महत्व रहा है।
यहाँ पांच यंत्र लगाये गये हैं — सम्राट यंत्र, नाडी वलय यंत्र, दिगंश यंत्र, भित्ति यंत्र एवं शंकु यंत्र है। इन यंत्रों का सन् 1925 में महाराजा माधवराव सिंधिया ने मरम्मत करवाया था।
Upon reaching the hotel, we realized that it would be a disaster to stay at kenilworth and pay money to ruin our holidays so we demanded the hotel to arrange for a room in similar property in Goa. Unfortunately, the weekend being a long weekend, Goa was completely sold out (or atleast, none of the 5 star deluxe hotels/resorts seem to be willing to offer rooms to us)
To add to the grief, while we were on the lookout in the cab, it didn’t stop raining. I wondered if I loved the rain or not ?
Trip was fixed when I was coming back from office by Local Train in the month of December 2012 & in train one of the co-passenger given Laddu as a Prasad from Shree Gajanan Maharaj – Shegaon, as it was his native place & he visit regularly. On the same time we decided to go for the Darshan of Shree Gajanan Maharaj in Shegaon & other 3 friends to agree and now date to be fixed for the trip, finally we decided to visit in the Month of January 2013 from 25th January to 28th January, 2013 and accordingly we have booked Railway ticket on the next day & we have got the confirm Ticket too.. Sabarmati Ashram : I think every Indian knows the name of this place :) It is located on Ashram road near Vadaj on the bank of Sabarmati River. Sabarmati Ashram or Satyagraha Ashram had played an instrumental role in the non-violence movement and India’s struggle for independence. Mahatma Gandhi’s famous “Dandi March” started from here in 1930. At present the site functions as a museum and an institution whose aim is to preserve and propagate the legacy of the Mahatma. At the entrance, a map of the area acts a guide for tourists. The site covers a large area and the Ashram premises a museum (Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya) which has five units – office, library, two photo galleries and an auditorium. The museum has eight life-size colour oil paintings and an exhibition on Gandhi’s life “My life is my message” and “Gandhiji in Ahmedabad”. An archive is also set up, which stores letters written by Gandhiji, manuscripts, photographs etc. The library has large number of books, coins, postal stamps and letters of felicitation received by Gandhiji. The grounds of the Ashram include the Hridaykunj, Gandhiji’s humble living quarters, Vinoba-Mira Kutir, Prarthana Bhoomi, statues of the three wise monkeys etc. The tranquility of the place is impressive and the memorabilia of Gandhiji and Independence Struggle reminds us of what we owe to our forefathers. Timing: 8.30 am to 6.00 pm throughout the year and admission is free.

संग्रहालय के मुख्य द्वार से अन्दर घुसा तो देखा कि टिकट खिड़की बन्द है। मुख्य भवन के बाहर भी नाना प्रकार की सैंकड़ों मूर्तियां वहां पर सुसज्जित देख कर मैने कैमरा निकाला और बकौल नन्दन झा, न्रीक्षण-प्रीक्षण शुरु हो गया। एक सज्जन मेरे पास आकर बोले, कैमरे का टिकट ले लीजियेगा, अपना भी। अभी थोड़ी ही देर में टिकट काउंटर खुल जायेगा। मैने पूछा कि तब तक मैं क्या करूं? इंतज़ार करना पड़ेगा? वह बोला, “नहीं, नहीं, आराम से देखिये, जहां भी चाहें, फोटो खींचिये। मेन बिल्डिंग में भी बहुत कुछ है। रास्ता इधर से है।” धन्यवाद कह कर मैं बेधड़क इधर-उधर घूमता फिरता रहा और एक डेढ़ घंटे में पूरा संग्रहालय उलट-पुलट कर देख डाला।

संभवतः तीसरी मंजिल पर जाकर एक ओर खेल कूद की दुकानें और दूसरी ओर खाने पीने के रेस्तरां दिखाई दिये। जेब में हाथ मार कर देखा तो पता चला कि मेरे सारे पैसे तो होटल में ही छूट गये हैं। अब दोबारा किसी भी हालत में होटल जाने और वापिस आने का मूड नहीं था। पैंट की, शर्ट की जेब बार – बार देखी पर एटीएम कार्ड के अतिरिक्त कुछ नहीं मिला। कैमरे के बैग की एक जेब में हाथ घुसाया तो मुड़ा तुड़ा सा १०० रुपये का एक नोट हाथ में आ गया। उस समय मुझे ये १०० रुपये इतने कीमती दिखाई दिये कि बस, क्या बताऊं ! छोले भटूरे का जुगाड़ तो हो ही सकता था। वही खा कर मॉल से बाहर निकल आया। सोचा इस बार सड़क के दूसरे वाले फुटपाथ से वापस होटल तक जाया जाये। सड़क का डिवाइडर पार कर उधर पहुंचा तो एक छोटा सा अष्टकोणीय (या शायद षट्कोणीय रहा होगा) भवन दिखाई दिया जिसकी छत पर एक स्तंभ भी था। सभी दीवारों पर जैन धर्म से संबंधित आकृतियां उकेरी गई थीं। यह जैनियों की किसी संस्था का कार्यालय था, जिसमें छोटे-छोटे दो कमरे बैंकों ने एटीएम के लिये किराये पर भी लिये हुए थे। एटीएम देख कर मेरी जान में जान आई और मैने तुरन्त कुछ पैसे निकाल लिये क्योंकि मेरी जेब में अब सिर्फ १० रुपये का ही एक नोट बाकी था।

There were many adults ride also, but our main focus was on children so we didn’t enjoy any adult rides except Hoola-loop which was sort of Roller coaster. Me and my brother has taken this ride and closed our eyes at the start of the ride only. It was a real thrilling adventurous rides, but very scary for people like us.

आगे बढ़े तो छत से झांकने पर एक और प्रांगण दिखाई दिया। बताया गया कि यहां रवीना टंडन की शादी हुई थी। जरूर हुई होगी, हमें तो निमंत्रण मिला नहीं था शादी का, हमारी बला से! सच पूछो तो रवीना शादीशुदा है या कुंवारी है – हमें इसमें भी कोई रुचि नहीं है। हमारे लिये तो हमारी अपनी श्रीमती जी ही रवीना, ऐश्वर्या, माधुरी, सीता, सावित्री, गार्गी, विद्योत्तमा, तिलोत्तमा सब कुछ हैं। (यह लाइन मैने उनको पढ़वाने के लिये ही लिखी है!)
सिटी पैलेस को समझना हो तो आप कुछ कुछ यूं समझें कि ये एक लंबाई में बनाया हुआ महल-कम-दुर्ग-कम-होटल-कम-संग्रहालय है। अगर आप 49,999 रुपये तथा उस पर विलासिता कर यानि luxury tax और VAT दे सकते हैं तो आप फतेह प्रकाश पैलेस या शिव सागर पैलेस होटल में से किसी एक होटल में एक रात रुक भी सकते हैं। अगर आप सोनिया गांधी के दामाद हैं और रातोंरात अरबपति बन चुके हैं तो आप अपने बच्चों का विवाह भी इन HRH Heritage hotels में से किसी एक में आयोजित कर सकते हैं। पर अगर आप 30 रुपये में सिटी पैलेस म्यूज़ियम देखने आये हैं तो आप शानदार हवेलियां देखिये, कमरों में सजाये हुए पंखे, बिस्तरे, मूढ़े आदि देखिये, अद्भुत वास्तुकला देखिये, अंग्रेज़ पर्यटकों को निहारिये, 200 रुपये कैमरे के लिये देकर फोटो वगैरा खींचिये और संकरी गली से बाहर निकल लीजिये।

शिल्पग्राम से हम बाहर निकले तो बाबू ने पास में ही, न जाने किस पार्क में गाड़ी ले जाकर खड़ी कर दी। बीच में एक फव्वारा, अच्छा हरा – भरा लॉन, अच्छे – अच्छे चेहरे थकान मिटाने के लिये काफी उपयुक्त सिद्ध हुए। घास पर लेटे रहे, कोल्ड-ड्रिंक पीते हुए चिप्स खाते खाते घंटा भर वहीं बिताया। जब सूर्यास्त हो गया तो महिलाओं को फिर हुड़क उठी कि बाज़ार चलते हैं। बाबू कुछ एंपोरियम में ले कर गया पर हम हर जगह यही शक करते रहे कि पता नहीं, कैसा सामान होगा, पता नहीं कितना महंगा बता रहे होंगे। मैने एक बार भी श्रीमती जी को जिद नहीं की कि ये सामान अच्छा है, खरीद लो! हम लोगों ने पहले ही तय कर रखा था कि यदि हम में से कोई कुछ खरीदना चाहेगा और दूसरा मना कर देगा तो वह चीज़ नहीं खरीदी जायेगी। इसके बाद पुनः हाथी पोल आये और श्रीमती जी ने दो जयपुरी रजाइयां खरीद ही डालीं जो वज़न में बहुत हल्की थीं और पैक होने के बाद उनका आकार भी बहुत कम रह गया था !
खाना पुनः बावर्ची में ही खा कर हम वापिस होटल वंडरव्यू पैलेस में पहुंच गये जहां हमारे नाम के दोनों कमरे बुक थे। अगला दिन हमने तय कर रखा था – सिटी पैलेस, बागौर की हवेली, नेहरू पार्क, और नाथद्वारा मंदिर देखने के लिये।
