Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh- Central India’s only hill Station

It was raining heavinly so we moved quickly and covered the place from different angles. To avoid rains I devised a trick and used my cowboy and raincoat hats as one person would hold the cap while second will hold the device right under it and click photos. The trick worked really nice and we managed to get good shots even in heavy downpour without any damage to our cameras.

सीढ़ियों ने अब बहुत ऊँचाई ले ली थी. विशाल चट्टान-नुमा ब्रह्मगिरी पर्वत अपने सम्पूर्ण विशालता को ले कर हमारे सामने था. उस ऊँचाई से त्रैम्बकेश्वर शहर कितना बौना और मनोहर लग रहा था. सीढियां पर्वत की सपाट सतहों से लग गयी थीं. इन सीढ़ियों में घाटी की तरफ लोहे की रेलिंग्स भी लगे हुए थे ताकि कोई फिसल कर घाटियों में न गिर जाये. उस पर अब बन्दर सामने आ गए. पहाड़ की ऊँची खड़ी सपाट सतह पर भी ये बन्दर चीखते-चिल्लाते ऐसे दौड़ते थे की मानो समतल धरती पर दौड़ रहे हों. कूद कर अचानक किसी पदयात्री के सामने आ जाना और उनके हाथ से खाना छीन लेने में इन बंदरों को महारत हासिल थी. पर अनुभवी यात्री अपने साथ इनके लिए भी कुछ खाद्य सामग्री ले कर चलते है. श्री दानी ने भी ऐसा ही किया था. उसने अपने थैले से बिस्कुट निकाला और बंदरों को निश्चिंतता से खिलाया. और इधर हम तीनों अनुभव-हीन यात्री अपनी छड़ियाँ पकड़े बंदरों से बच कर आगे चलते रहे.

जैसे ही मैं अंतिम सीढ़ी से उतरा, मेरे ध्यान स्थानीय लोगों की एक टोली पर गया, जो निचली सीढ़ी पर अजीबो-गरीब हरकतें कर रहे थे. मेरी पत्नी तो आगे बढ़ गयीं, पर मैं अपनी जिज्ञासा शांत करने हेतु उस टोली की ताराग चला गया. वहां एक स्त्री, जिसके बाल बिखरे हुए थे, बड़े जोरों से चिल्ला रही थी. वह हांफ भी रही थी और बड़ी बेचैन लग रही थी. वहीँ खड़े लोगों ने मुझे बताया कि उस स्त्री पर देवी आ गयीं हैं और वह तब-तक ठीक नहीं होगी, जब तक इस मंदिर के सामने उसकी पूजा न की जाये. उसके घरवाले भी वहीँ मौजूद थे. कोई ओझा उसकी तथाकथित पूजा कर रहा था. इस पूजा की पूजन सामग्री कोई भिन्न नहीं थी. वही अगरबत्ती, नारियल, फूल, मिठाई इत्यादि. पर एक बकरा भी वहीँ खड़ा था,

Trek to DudhSagar Falls: Trek along the Railway Track

We hired a place to sleep at night near the beach only, 600 rs per day and then left to explore the night life of GOA. We left for the Anjuna beach where there is a secret pub called Curley’s. You can not reach there on car. You will have to park it around a km before the actual place. The ambiance at the place was just ecstatic, with a mixed Indian and foreigner crowd, the place was too good for the prices quoted. We had another pint of beer, checked about the dance party every night there. It was scheduled to start by 10 30, so we thought we won’t join it, as we wanted to start early morning next day towards Dudhsagar. Came back to the baga beach grabbed a bite and then went off to sleep.

Next morning we started towards Castle rock station, around 80 km from Panaji. To reach dudhsagar falls, one has to do trekking atleast for 2 km. There are 4 routes to reach the place, of which the Castle rock railway track trek is the longest 14 km and the best one too. We opted for the best. Reaching Castle rock by 9 30. We got ready for the trek, by giving away the extra luggage at a food shop on the station. Took idli from the shop, and started our trek. It was difficult to walk on the track and there was no parallel way to walk on. The enthralling views and the desire to reach the destination kept us moving.

We clicked her at a short distance while she oblivious to the attention she was getting continued with her innocent play. Then we heard some grunts form the bushes behind her and the cub vanished behind them, probably her mother was hiding in the bushes and called her back. Next visit we saw the mother and cubs again from a short distance and the cub entered the waters to cool down in the April heat while the mother lurked from the bushes behind her.

All this while I was longing to see the ruler of this kingdom, the Wagdoh male who is considered the largest male tiger in India. Though I wonder who would have dared to go and measure his size or of other tigers to compare them ? When I enquired with Mangesh our guide for all the safaris, if we will get a chance to see the Wagdhoh male he simply said, “Sir, he is the king of this jungle he holds durbar only once in a week, so you can see him only if he wants you to see him”. On further query we learned that the elusive king was last seen almost 8 days ago, so we had a good chance to see him.

Bibi Ka Maqbara is situated about 5 kms from the Aurangabad city, the burial place of Aurangzeb wife, Rabia-Durrani. It is an imitation of the Taj Mahal at Agra; it is also called as “poor man’s Taj Mahal” owing to it being a poor replica of the Taj. Behind the tomb is located a small archeological museum.

The comparison with the Agra monument has unfortunately somewhat degraded the Aurangabad tomb which in itself displays a worthwhile architectural design, with much distinguished surface ornamentation in the late Mughal style.

The tomb dates from 1678 and it was erected by Prince Azam Shah, one of Aurangzeb’s sons, in memory of Begum Rabia Durani, his mother. It stands in the middle of a spacious and formally planned garden, some 457 by 274 meters, with axial ponds, fountains, and water channels, many defined by stone screens and lined with broad pathways. The garden is enclosed by high crenellated walls with fortress set at intervals, and open pavilions on three sides.
