Amarnath Yatra :: A Journey of Faith :: Pahalgam to Pishutop

By

We were climbing the steep ascent through the muddy, rocky and narrow route. Those on foot were making their path upwards according to their own convenience. Every step on such steep ascent of initial trek is the first test of one’s mind and faith. To strengthen devotees’ faith the Military Personnel are there and their presences are felt throughout the route.

Pondicherry is a unique destination in so many ways. The Union Territory boasts an idyllic vibe when compared to its neighbouring states, and the French colonial influence has added to the aesthetics in every turn. The Rues of the French Quarters need a bit of exploring – hidden amongst them many heritage buildings, quaint bakeries and hotels.

Patal Bhuvneshwari was one of the most exciting tours for us. Before starting for Nainital ( Nainital is a Himalayan town in the Kumaon region of India’s Uttarakhand state, at an altitude  of around 2,000m. ) I explored about nearby places in Nainital. I do not want to explore the lake and another most visited place of Nainital.

Unreal New Zealand

Certain places cannot be described with words. That’s why I created a video. The places I visited, the experiences I had, none can be visualized by a mere description. Entering the South Island of New Zealand is like entering a fantasy world. In my video, I have attempted to capture the beauty of Queenstown, Te Anau, Fiordland, Wanaka and Glenorchy. However, what the camera captures is limited compared to what your eyes really see.

Delhi to Nepal in my Honda City!!

By

Thought on going on a summer break was up in the mind since June started but could not finalize the destination. On a fine Monday morning 11th June, while going to office after a relaxed weekend spent with family, the idea clicked to go on a road trip and the destination which was calling was “Nepal” Kathmandu and Pokhara. As soon as reached office started exploring blogs on “road trip to Nepal”. Got motivated after I saw many people have already done this trip. What else was required? Is the family in for this trip? Does my car ok for the trip? Called Pooja and have an agreement to start our Journey next morning and that was quick. Later in evening got the car checked up for the trip, kept extra engine oil.

Fisherman’s Wharf is a true blue tourist joint, often called by many as a ‘tourist trap’ but I have always liked the energy at this place. To start with, spend some time at Ghirardelli square where the original factory used to be, and don’t forget to have those free samples of the world-famous chocolate. On a cold weather day, you would find a huge fire-place in open and you can have a relaxing coffee or hot chocolate to give you a good company. Once done, head all the way to Pier 39 and watch the “Sea Lions” on those old wooden decks. One can keep gazing at these big creatures for ever. Sample some fresh breads at Boudin Sourdough Bakery & Cafe. Follow this with two rounds of the whole place and you would be amazed by the sheer color and vibrance, from the souvenir shops to street performances, to museums, the rides and swings, to food kiosks and of course a lot of tourists. On a good day, one can easily spend an entire evening at the Fisherman’s Wharf. And finally when you have nothing else left to explore then head to Alcatraz.

Your troubles don’t end once you get the entrance tickets. Because the tickets to the actual boat ride will be issued only at the counters near the lake boating area which is another 2 kms away. From the gates of the sanctuary we left our car and took an auto to reach the boat house(auto drivers queue up at 3 am to book their place at the head of the queue). For the 2 kms, autos charge(robbed would be the right term)200 bucks to the inner gate of the sanctuary. From there, it is a sprint for another 500 metres to the ticket counter. After all these troubles, I just about managed to get the tickets just in the nick of time. I heard from the authorities that to avoid these troubles one can stay at the KTDC Aranya Nivas, inside the sanctuary which provides access to the boat rides.

So the five of us zoomed out of Delhi by a cab on a Saturday morning by 6 am. It is recommended to leave Delhi early morning, else you get stuck in the traffic which will be tiresome. After crossing Meerut, we halted for breakfast as everyone was feeling ravenously hungry. Believe me, nothing meets the taste of Parathas & chai at the roadside dhabas during such trips. We filled our belly and then the journey resumed.
