The famous temple route of South Western Karnataka is Mangalore- Subhramanya-Dharmastala-Hornadu-Sringeri-Kollur-Udupi-back to Mangalore.Murdeshwar beach temple can be included too if one has more time.

Kukke Subramanya temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in Karnataka. Here Lord Subramanya is worshipped as the lord of all serpents. The devotees enter the courtyard of the temple from the main entrance at the back and walk around to go before the deity.

Kolkata to Delhi drive : Part 1

Journey from Kolkata to Delhi through the awesome Durgapur Expressway, was something I had dreamt of since the time I went to Kolkata back in August 2007. I had my plans sorted out that I will be working in Kolkata not more than 2-3 years and then when I return back to Delhi, I will do that by road. It was January 1st week, when I got an offer in hand for a job back in Delhi, and I immediately had in mind, it’s now or never.

We were all set to start on the 4th of February 2011 for Delhi from Kolkata by road in my most loveable Santro.

बद्रीनाथ -Mana, the last village!

Badrinath is at a height of 11,204 feet above msl. It is around 530 Kms from Delhi and the route is Delhi – Haridwar – Rishikesh -Devprayag-Rudraprayag – Karanprayag-Chamoli -Joshimath – Badrinath. Badrinath route opens in first week of May and is closed for winters after Deepawali.
If going by own vehicle, one has to reach upto Karanprayag or Nandprayag and take a night’s halt. If there are two drivers, one can easily reach upto Joshimathh and stay there, saving one day.
For train journey, the last station is Rishikesh, from where hired taxis, chartered buses, route buses and jeeps are easily available for Badri Nath.

Pachmarhi – In Heaven’s Abode (Trek 2)

he points in this trek mostly included temple caves and shrines. I was greatly exhilarated because i will be surrounded by mysticism and divinity of Mahadev Shiva for the whole day. Mahadev is a great source of inspiration ,he is a yogi and a warrior bestowed with great powers.
Jatashankar is a cave temple.One has to go deep into the ravine about 200-400 meters with the help of narrow stairways laid down supported by enormous rocks on both sides.These are sedimentary rocks mainly sandstone thus having loose gravel.In simpler words if one throws a sandstone it breaks.

यात्रा: कभी ख़ुशी कभी ग़म

औंढा में हमसे अपेक्षाकृत ज्यादा पैसे खर्च हो गए, और अंततः हमारी जेब पूरी तरह से खाली हो गई, लेकिन हमें पूरा विश्वास था की तहसील प्लेस है, इतना बड़ा तीर्थ स्थान है, रोजाना देश के कोने कोने से पर्यटक आते हैं एकाध ए.टी.एम. तो होगा ही….लेकिन जब हम बस स्टॉप पर आये और हमने ए.टी.एम. का पता किया तो हमारे होश फाख्ता हो गए पता चला की औंढा में एक भी ए.टी.एम. नहीं है, हमें औंढा से परली जाना था जो की लगभग साढ़े तीन घंटे का रास्ता था, हमारे पास सिर्फ दो सौ रुपये थे और बस का किराया था 300 रुपये लेकिन हम हिम्मत करके बस में बैठ गए क्योंकि फिर परली के लिए बस कुछ घंटों के बाद ही थी.

After Meerut till Ghaziabad the road was totally devastated at most places specially at Modinagar and Muradnagar (Though now the stretch is totally fine). After crossing the stretch, at Ghaziabad again there was a traffic jam at Hindon Bridge which is quite regular. We were stuck there for 1 hour.

While we were planning the Kumaon itinerary, research on the net did not convince us to include the cave complex in the trip. Few bloggers felt it was unsafe, slippery, and muddy and for those who liked it, I was not sure if it was due to their religious inclination or were the caves really worth a visit for a secular tourist.

I discussed these apprehensions with my friend Mona, who belongs to that region. She insisted that we must include them in the itinerary and added that some of her old relatives visited the caves and found them scintillating. So even with all the reservations, Patal Bhuvaneshwar was not completely striked out from the plan.

नांदेड में हजुर साहिब सचखंड गुरूद्वारे के पावन दर्शन के पश्चात अब हमारी यात्रा का अगला गंतव्य था श्री औंढा नागनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग दर्शन.

A quick tour toTarkeshwar – तारकेश्वर महादेव

I always have two sets of Ghummakari. One is with my family, where we book good accommodation and with all gears ready and behaving like “अच्छा बच्चा” (or rather achha buddha now LOL). The other set of trip is with group of my childhood friends (Laxman, Awasthi, Vijay & Pradeep).

With friends, our trip is quick, without any hotel bookings or preparations for the way and with minimum budget . It is so quick that sometimes we decide at night that tomorrow morning we are going. I keep a small tent, purchased from Scotland, in the boot of car, , which houses two and can be fitted in 20 minutes… but like our trains we can 3 or 4 slip into that in emergency.

Our trip to Tarkeshwar Mahadev was such a quickie. A day before we decided to dash and lo…next morning 4 am we were on the road with petrol tank full. all five of us packed well in the car and crossed Meerut in one hour. Road from Meerut towards Kotdwar is not easily recognised during traffic hours as it looks like a small bazar, but in the wee hours it welcomed us with open lanes.
