On this trip with plenty of time to spare, I decided that I must now “see” Bangalore. Naturally that meant a leisurely morning walk in the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens where I was thrilled to see the very rare Jade Vine [Strongylodon macrobotrys]. I had first seen it almost thirty years ago as a watercolour in my plant book and never imagined I would ever see it for real. Here they are, green-blue clusters of flowers in all their glory.

It was 11.00 a.m on a cool Sunday morning and i was trying not to get out of the bed on the only off day i had during the week. Soon, Adhiraaj woke up and we resumed our ‘What to do’ discussion from the previous night. It was almost a year and a half for both of us, living in Noida and apart from visiting Chandani Chowk ( Prantha Wali Gali), we didn’t go to any other place. The first stretch was comparatively pleasant because the rains had ceased and also because the upcoming hiking and biking session was bound to be very tough. After all, some bikes weighed 21 kgs and these riders had to carry their bikes on their shoulders when it was not possible to ride them – which was almost all of the 12 kilometres. By the end of this stretch, we, the photographers, were dead tired. But the riders were much better off than us.
