How can a Jaipur trip be concluded without some shopping? We grabbed a local cab (can be booked from the resort reception only) and requested him to get to a single good place where most of the things are available. Unlike many of the Indian tourist places, drivers and guides in Rajasthan are still unbiased and reliable. He took us to a factory outlet, where they produce staff at the two levels of basement and have three floors of retail and wholesale shop. Got a good bargain of various stuff there. Some of the materials are also available in the resort itself, but as you can imagine those are unreasonably costly and very small collections as compared to the outside outlets.

बात जब सड़क की हो रही है तो ट्रेफ्फिक और पुलिस की भी कर लें, यूँ लगता है जैसे जयपुर का सारा पुलिस अमला केवल परिवहन की व्यवस्था के लिए ही जिम्मेदार हो ! और ऐसे में यदि आपकी गाडी की नम्बर-प्लेट हरियाणा की है तो सावधान रहिये ! सीट-बेल्ट, मोबाइल पर बात करना, रेड लाइट पार कर जाना… भले ही आपके आस-पास से राजस्थान की अनेक गाड़ियाँ निकल जाएँ पर रोका केवल आपको ही जाएगा ! जयपुर में ऐसे बहुत से खट्टे-मीठे अनुभव हुए और कई बार तो ना चाहते हुए कुछ समझौते भी करने पड़े, एक तो पराया शहर, ऊपर से गाड़ी किसी और की… अपना शहर हो तो झेल भी लें पर यहाँ… समय की भी बंदिश है, परिवार भी साथ है, और इस कमज़ोर नस को हमारे भाई लोग भी बखूबी पहचानते हैं… एक बार तो थक हार कर एक हवलदार से तंज़ भी करना पड़ा, यूँ तो कहते हो ‘पधारो म्हारे देस’ और जब कोई सचमुच पधार ही जाये तो सारे मिलकर उसे लूटने में ही लग जाते हो…. बहरहाल ये बातें तो देश के हर हिस्से में हर किसी के साथ घटती ही रहती हैं, तो आइये अब आगे बढ़ते हैं…

चलिए ऐसा करते हैं, ज़रा शुरू से शुरुआत करते हैं, सोमेश एक छोटे भाई के अलावा एक बेहतरीन मेहमान नवाज़ भी निकला और साफ़ कह दिया कि बिना नाश्ते के नही जाना, दो-दो भाभियाँ हैं मिलकर बना लेंगी बाकी दिन भर आप जो मर्जी खाते रहना और फिर उसने हमे एक कागज़ पर घूमने की जगहों के अलावा उन सभी मशहूर जगहों और खान-पान के ठिकानों का पता भी दे दिया जो जयपुर में अपनी विशिष्टता रखते हैं ! इनमे से सबसे बेहतरीन था ‘स्टेचू सर्कल’ पर रात को क़ाफ़ी पीते हुये ‘हैंग आउट’ करना, जिसे आप जयपुर का मिनी इंडिया-गेट भी कह सकते हैं | सवाई जय सिंह का बुत लगा यह चौक स्थानीय तथा पर्यटकों के लिये एक प्रमुख आकर्षण का केंद्र है |

The Spell of Bundi – Exploring Heritage

It has a big entrance and you land up into a courtyard flanked on all sides by large, tall halls with stairs going up to the next level. You catch a breath to take a good view of overall topology and head towards the stairs. The initial bat-poo-smell is familiar but gradually the stench begins to get the better of you. The palace has seen good times and that is apparent from those murals (and more when we would visit Chitrashala), persian glass-ware and all things which are signature of forts. The jharokhas (Bay windows?) give an impressive view of the town and the Baoli. In December, the haze was thic but I would guess that in a better weather the view would take you few ages behind. The old, stunted-appearing, town almost feels like a scene from the film ‘Rudaali’. We walked around, with the help of a local guide/care-taker who patiently opened the locked doors so that we could appreciate the once-royal palace. The overgrowing stench, bad upkeep was now winning so I got into a conversation with the caretaker. He told me that the place is undergoing a litigation. There is a very thin layer of support staff to take care of the place but all they try to do is to keep the hooligans off and wait for well-meaning travellers. I didn’t want to make it more difficult for the caretaker and wished him luck and we proceed to 2nd floor/3rd level. Large rooms, supported with crafted pillars and brackets. The usual Torans (welcoming motif at the entrance) with elephants proudly protruding their long trunks.

The old Fort is damaged but a lot of new construction has come up in the Fort. ‘Kangla’ was the ancient capital of Manipur from the ancient times down to the year 1891 AD.

Inside the fort there is an old Govindji temple, temple was closed & it seems that now no body offers prayer there.

After that we went to visit new Govindji temple which is not very far from the fort.The famous temple of Shree Govindaji is one of the prime attractions of Imphal. This Hindu temple has the deities of Hindu gods, Radha and Krishna Govinda.

Well, hope is a wonderful thing and is a must grab tool too, be it come from any source, come on any moment, come from anywhere. There He walked down where we sat down with a fickle mind whether to proceed or not. He looked like an ordinary man, carrying a backpack with a 1 litre bottle, head shining like a aura in sun, spects crowning like a jewel on Him, and a determination to climb any fort in vision. And as expected He rides on a THUNDERBIRD. We asked Him how far is it going up from here, and He replied in simple words, “2 hours of continuous walk up and 1 hour of a smiling walk down”. We just kept listening to His stories, He kept on sharing his experiences, and within few minutes of interaction He was a hero. Trekking alone just to make sure He climbs every fort He knows exist. He motivated us to the brim of our taking and we were all set to see what’s there on the top. We were short on water and with every level up we tasted water pretty slowly. There we saw the mighty walls of the fort, standing tall through times and weather, without APEX ULTIMA :p.

A Rainy Day in Raichak

The balcony leads you to the lounge or resting area. This lounge will amaze you. Four-poster bed, easy chair, gramophone, tables, chairs, sofa – decades old decorates this lounge. One can also notice the typical Bengali red cemented floors here. The only touch of modernization in this room perhaps is the air conditioning. The best part was the view through the large glass window panes which got frosted because of the rain outside. It rather added to the rustic beauty.

Recently, I went to visit Red Fort and come back home with so many thoughtful memories. It was not my first visit but this trip was an amazing experience.
The Red Fort of Delhi has witnessed so many rulers and an important link between the past and the present. It had witnessed the downfall of Mughal dynasty, as well as pains and sufferings throughout our freedom struggle. It has also witnessed the day when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, unfurled the national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort on 15th of August, 1947.

रहस्यमयी नगरी – मांडू

अल्टीमेटली हम उस भीमकाय भवन के निकट जा पहुंचे जो दूर से एक छोटा सा बुर्ज महसूस हो रहा था। वहां लिखा था – रानी रूपमती का महल ! वहां हमने थोड़ी देर तक इमली वाले ठेले पर इमली के रेट को लेकर बहस की। ये मांडू की विशेष इमली थी जिसके बारे में मुकेश ने बताया कि ये सिर्फ यहां मांडू की जलवायु का ही प्रताप है कि यहां ये इमली उगती है। मैं अपने जन्म से लेकर आज तक इमली के नाम पर अपने परचून वाले की दुकान पर जो इमली देखता आया हूं, वह तो छोटे – छोटे बीज होते हैं जिनके ऊपर कोकाकोला रंग की खटास चिपकी हुई होती है और बीज आपस में एक दूसरे से पेप्सी कलर के धागों से जुड़े रहते हैं। वह ये तो इमली के फल थे जिनके भीतर बीज होने अपेक्षित थे। बाहर से इस फल पर इतने सुन्दर रोयें थे कि बस, क्या बताऊं = एकदम सॉफ्ट एंड सिल्की ! दूर से देखो तो आपको लगेगा कि शायद बेल बिक रही है, पर पास जाकर देखें तो पता चलता है कि इमली के फल की शक्ल-सूरत बेल के फल से कुछ भिन्न है और साथ में रोयें भी हैं! जब रेट को लेकर सौदा नहीं पटा तो हम टिकट लेकर रानी रूपमती के महल या मंडप की ओर बढ़ चले जो नर्मदा नदी से 305 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर एक पहाड़ी पर स्थित है। यह मुझे किसी भी एंगिल से महल या मंडप अनुभव नहीं हुआ। अब जैसा कि पढ़ने को मिला है, ये मूलतः सेना के उपयोग में आने वाली एक मचान हुआ करती थी जिसमें मध्य में एक बड़ा परन्तु नीची छत वाला हॉल व उसके दोनों ओर दो कमरे थे। पर बाद में उसमें विस्तार करके ऊपर बुर्ज व दो गुंबद बनाये गये। ये बुर्ज वास्तव में आकर्षक प्रतीत होती है। ये सब काम सिर्फ इसलिये कराने पड़े थे चूंकि रानी रूपमती को नर्मदा नदी के दर्शन किये बिना खाना नहीं खाना होता था, अतः वह यहां से ३०५ मीटर नीचे घाटी में एक चांदी की लकीर सी नज़र आने वाली नर्मदा की धारा को देख कर संतोष कर लिया करती थीं और एतदर्थ नित्य प्रति यहां आया करती थीं। इसी कारण बाज़ बहादुर ने इसमें कुछ परिवर्तन कराकर इसे इस योग्य कर दिया कि जब रूपमती यहां आयें तो वह रानी से कुछ अच्छे – अच्छे गानों की फरमाइश कर सकें और चैन से सुन सकें। जैसा कि आज कल के लड़के – लड़कियां मंदिर में जाते हैं तो भगवान के दर्शनों के अलावा एक दूसरे के भी दर्शन की अभिलाषा लेकर जाते हैं, ऐसे ही रानी रूपमती और बाज बहादुर भी यहां आकर प्रणय – प्रसंगों को परवान चढ़ाते थे। खैर जी, हमें क्या!

इन्दौर पहुंच गये हम!

खाना खाने के बाद मैने तो लंबी तान ली और ये तीनों महिलाएं न जाने क्या – क्या गपशप करती रहीं। राजा की मंडी (आगरा) स्टेशन आया तो अपने घुमक्कड़ भाई रितेश गुप्ता की याद आई। उनसे सच्ची-मुच्ची वाली मुलाकात तो आज तक नहीं हो पाई पर फेसबुक पर गप-शप अक्सर ही होती रहती है। मैने उनको इस ट्रेन से जाने के बारे में सूचना नहीं दी हुई थी पर फिर भी न जाने किस आशा में, प्लेटफार्म पर उतरा, कुछ पल चहल-कदमी की और फिर वापिस ट्रेन में आ बैठा। बाहर अंधेरा होने लगा था और खिड़की से कुछ दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था, अतः सामने वालों पर ही ध्यान केन्द्रित किया। सोचा, बच्चों को कुछ ज्ञान की बातें बताई जायें। घुमक्कड़ का ज़िक्र शुरु कर दिया और बताया कि अगर उन्होंने वह वेबसाइट नहीं देखी तो समझो ज़िन्दगी में कुछ नहीं देखा। वहीं बैठे – बैठे रितेश, मनु, जाट देवता, डी.एल. अमितव, नन्दन, मुकेश-कविता भालसे, प्रवीण वाधवा आदि-आदि सब का परिचय दे डाला। रेलवे को भी कोसा कि लैपटॉप नहीं चल पा रहा है, वरना उनको घुमक्कड़ साइट भी दिखा डालता।

रात हुई, खाना खाया, कुछ देर किताब पढ़ी, फिर सामान को ठीक से लॉक करके और कैमरे वाले बैग को अपनी छाती से लगा कर सो गया। ग्वालियर में उतर कर अंधेरे में अपने मोबाइल से एक-दो फोटो खींचने का भी प्रयत्न किया पर कुछ बात कुछ बनी नहीं। सुबह पांच बजे आंख खुली और ट्रेन लगभग 7 बजे इन्दौर स्टेशन पर आ पहुंची।
