Gujarat is an ancient land abounding in mythology and legends and dotted with pilgrimage and historical sites. Since the advent of Bronze Age, every era has left its footprints in Gujarat. There are temples, mosques, tombs, forts, palaces and monasteries.
Religious sites are major part of tourism in Gujarat. Somnath is the first among twelve Jyotirlingas. The Palitana temples of Jainism on Mount Satrunjaya, the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque and Jama Masjid, the Sun Temple, Modhera, Dwarakadheesh Temple and Dakor are noteworthy pilgrimage sites.
This peninsular state in western India boasts of archaeological sites of the port city of Lothal and Dholavira from the Indus Valley Civilisation. Continuing the historical tale are the Rock Edicts of Emperor Asoka, Mahabat Maqbara, Lakhot Fort and Narsinh Mehta No Choro.
Kirti Mandir, Porbandar, Sabarmati Ashram, and Kaba Gandhi No Delo, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial( in Ahmedabad) proudly speak about our beloved Mahatma Gandhi who was born here and the Iron man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the chief architect of modern India.
Nature too has gifted the state with many attractions such as Girnar Mountain, Gir Forest National Park, Vansda National Park, Blackbuck National Park, Marine National Park, and Wild Ass Wildlife Sanctuary.
With seventeen airports, Gujarat is very well connected by air, a good network of railways and intercity and interstate road transport. Gujarat experiences hot and dry summers, a good monsoon and moderate pleasant winters. Best time to visit here would be from October to April.
This is the place where Magan Lal Gandhi, grandson of an uncle of Mahatama resided. He had gone to South Africa in order to earn his living instead became an ardent follower of Mahatama Gandhi. Various designs of Charkhas are placed here now.

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Kutch is the Rann. In visuals you have seen it as white, featureless and stark landscape where not a blade of grass grows. Quick research of net has shown that you can enjoy two views of the Rann. First the aerial view from top of Kalo Dungar and the second is to actually walk on the white terrain at the same site where the annual Rann Mahotsav is held during full moon nights in winters.
It is May and hot. You have few hours only and have started early and are now racing north. The driver wants to take the car aerial but you have to keep reminding him that you want to see Rann only from a few hundred metres up and not all the way from the top!

Anyway we crawled through this part dreaming about the great highway ahead as I had heard of. And our dream came true sooner and an awesome highway welcomed us and our Maruti was behaving like a luxury car on this highway, so good is the highway, a zigzag movement notwithstanding. Sabarmati Ashram : I think every Indian knows the name of this place :) It is located on Ashram road near Vadaj on the bank of Sabarmati River. Sabarmati Ashram or Satyagraha Ashram had played an instrumental role in the non-violence movement and India’s struggle for independence. Mahatma Gandhi’s famous “Dandi March” started from here in 1930. At present the site functions as a museum and an institution whose aim is to preserve and propagate the legacy of the Mahatma. At the entrance, a map of the area acts a guide for tourists. The site covers a large area and the Ashram premises a museum (Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya) which has five units – office, library, two photo galleries and an auditorium. The museum has eight life-size colour oil paintings and an exhibition on Gandhi’s life “My life is my message” and “Gandhiji in Ahmedabad”. An archive is also set up, which stores letters written by Gandhiji, manuscripts, photographs etc. The library has large number of books, coins, postal stamps and letters of felicitation received by Gandhiji. The grounds of the Ashram include the Hridaykunj, Gandhiji’s humble living quarters, Vinoba-Mira Kutir, Prarthana Bhoomi, statues of the three wise monkeys etc. The tranquility of the place is impressive and the memorabilia of Gandhiji and Independence Struggle reminds us of what we owe to our forefathers. Timing: 8.30 am to 6.00 pm throughout the year and admission is free.

After 5 days 1400 kms, 40 degrees, we were all ready to fight. Ayush was not feeling very well waiting at the mechanic shop so he started moving, and he was feeling better so it was better that he starts covering as much ground as possible.
We decided that I will definitely move and reach as much as I can even till late night so that I could reach Pune by next day evening. Prateek agreed to come with me.
So now we had split in 3 groups … Ayush was riding alone, I was riding at High Speeds of 110-120 kmph with Prateek and all the others were riding together.

We were wondering and thanking God that he didn’t fall off his bike and control it to stop it. It would have been a terrible accident, but in this he completely damaged the Fender of the bike. For non Bikers, Fender is the front portion you see in some bikes, pictorial representation will help !!! ☺
The fender was completely damaged and it was not possible to ride the bike with the damaged fender, it needs to be replaced or broken completely otherwise it was restricting the handle movement.
We were happy that Sharath got saved, and the donkey was alive ☺, but now we have a bigger problem in hand. We are in the middle of no-where with 1 man not feeling well, and 1 bike damaged.
While we were trying to break off the damaged fender so that that bike may be taken to the nearest mechanic, Ayush was getting bad to worse … he was completely dehydrated and fell flat on the Highway … 12:00 noon … around 38-40 degrees … no-one around and Ayush Lying on the road … the others breaking the fender so that the bike can to taken to the nearest mechanic … !!!

We came back from bet dwarka and nageshwar at 3 and then we took a nap for some time. And then set out on foot for sight scene near the city I forgot the name of the temple situated near dwarka city but you can get information about temples and sight scene from the hotels and local citizens and Autorikshwalas.
