Kanha

An irresistible destination for wildlife lovers is the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The region is characterised by Sal and Bamboo forests, rolling grasslands and meandering streams creating a haven for its animal and avian inhabitants. Kanha National Park came into being in the year 1955 and became a Tiger Reserve in 1974 and its stringent conservation programmes have earned it the reputation of being one of the finest and best administered National Parks in all of Asia.
Considering that the winter months of October to February make it pleasant for travelling, these are the peak tourist months in Kanha. However, you can also visit the park during the starting days of the summer season, when the rolling grassland of kanha gets dry and there is a better chance to see the wild animals and birds near the waterholes and ponds. One can reach Kanha National Park by road from the nearby cities of Jabalpur, Bilaspur and Nagpur. While both Jabalpur and Nagpur have airports, the nearest railhead is Jabalpur.
