Shimoga

Shimoga, situated on the banks of the Tunga River is one of the most picturesque cities in Karnataka. It is bounded by the Sahyadri Ghats which are adorned with dense forests and beautiful waterfalls. Most popular among them are the Jog Falls which would be at their best after the monsoon with tremendous amounts of water pouring down. Shimoga town is well connected by road and has a railway station with frequent trains to Bengaluru and Mysore.
There is plenty to do in and around Shimoga including trekking in Kodachadri, water sports in Honnemaradu, Eco tourism in Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary and Elephant training camp Sakrebayalu , and heritage sightseeing in Nagara, Kavaledurga and Shivappa Nayak Palace.
Best time to visit: During or just after the rains in July and August to witness the waterfalls at their peak; Climate is best for tourism between October and March
