Goa in August

It was my first trip to Goa and first post; people to go on the trip were my wife, my mother and two kids and I.
I had expected to find lots of posts on Goa at Ghumakkar but strangely there were few and hardly any about South Goa.So I tried one. I had booked in Varca Beach resort, we have to reach Varca by 17 Aug and our check-out was on 20nd August (on my birthday).

16 Aug:
We planned to travel by Rajdhani from Nizammudin station (N. Delhi) to Madgaon. We left home at 7:30 am, train time is 11 am. Train came at time, we have co passenger, but they are mainly going on business trip towards Mumbai. Inside train is too cool and there is regular rain outside. The train route from Panvel to Madgaon is really beautiful.

17 Aug:
Arrived at Madgaon 3:00 pm, the feeling of being in Goa starts before reaching to Station start itself because of different type of small-small houses, greenery, ocean Ships
We hired a pre-paid taxi to Varcha beach. Finally we reached the Resort at Varca around 4.30pm we have offered juice while check-in formalities. We were taken to our room in a golf cart. I went for an evening walk to have a view of the surroundings. The campus was really nice and well maintained and there are two large swimming pools.

18 Aug:
On my morning walk I walked towards Varcha beach which is 7-8 minute difference from our room. To go out for a walk on the beach one has to sign the security register. Its first time I’ve seen ocean from so close, previously it’s from flight on my Chennai official trip, on that trip I’ve not get time for roaming. Here its look waves coming from sky toward us, really a nice experience.

Around 10 am we hired a car for North Goa. Cars are easily available for hire. There are lots of farms, different type of Houses. In the way we have seen Gurudwara at Betim and we went there for worship. Our Driver also doesn’t know about gurudwara location previously.

I’ve listened only die-hard Goa lovers come at goa at this time because of the monsoon rains. But its heavy rain for 10-15 minutes and then clear sky.

Then we visit Fort Aguada and other beaches

We picked up some cashew nuts from the Margao market and natural coconut oil from road side. By the time we reached our hotel, it was already dark; there are no streetlights even on highway!! Later in the evening we went for a walk outside the resort towards Varca village. There were at least three restaurants within walking distance, with brightly lit decorative lights. We bought dinner from a restaurant and returned to our room for dinner.

19 Aug:
Today we planned not to go outside and just enjoy hotel premises swimming pool, fun zone, children play area and Varcha Beach.

We boarded the train to Delhi around 11:30. The train route from Madgaon to Delhi is really beautiful. Thus my first trip to Goa ended. Hope fellow Ghumakkars like my account.

Welcome aboard Jassi and belated Happy Birthday.

I looked for Goa stories and can find few of them – https://www.ghumakkar.com/category/statesofindia/goa/ and interestingly, if we leave road reviews , there are three stories during Monsoon :-) so seems like there is never an off-season in Goa :-)

Great pics for sure. Look fwd to read more.

  • Hi Jassi,
    Welcome to Ghumakkar!
Your post brought back sweet memories of my monsoon trip exactly 2 years back to exactly the same place in Goa: https://www.ghumakkar.com/2010/01/01/a-goan-monsoon/
The only difference is that you went by train and I took the road route from Pune.
There are even more beaches to visit in South Goa (even more south of Varca Beach), like Cavelossim, Mobor, Agonda and Palolem, and a deserted fort by the name of Cabo-de-Rama.
Thanks for the info about the Gurudwara at Betim, must visit on my next trip.
Your pictures were excellent! Looking forward to some more.
