मेला सारी दुनिया में एक जैसा ही पॉपुलर है. भारत में तो लगभग सारा साल कहीं न कहीं मेला रहता है. पर यहाँ कैनेडा में भी लोग चाव से मेले का इंतजार करते हैं. 2012 अगस्त 4, 5, 6 को यह हेरिटेज मेला लगा था मैं सुबह सवेरे त्यार हो कर फोर्ट सस्केत्च्वान से एडमंटन के लिए यात्रा शुरू करता हूँ. कार में ४० किमी और बस स्टैंड की पार्किंग में कार पार्क करने के बाद सिटी बस में सवार हो जाता हूँ. एक टिकेट ३ डालर का है और यह बस हेरिटेज मेला के लिए जा रही है. बस में जैसे ही ३० सवारी बैठी बस चल पड़ती है. बस की एक लम्बी लाइन सवारी का इंतजार कर रही है, कोई धक्का मुक्की नहीं है, मेला एरिया में कार पार्किंग एक कठिन काम है इस लिए बस में जाना आराम दायक है.

मेला क्षेत्र काफी सुंदर लग रहा है. एक छोटी सी झील उस में फवारे चल रहे हैं. संसार के काफी मुल्कों के स्टाल लगे हुए हैं. हर देश की चीजें और खाने पीने का समान बिक रहा है. सारे संसार की झांकी जहाँ पर देखी जा सकती है यह दो पुरुष पुरातन सेनेकों की वेशभूषा में है. एक इस्त्री भी प्राचीन लिबास में है लोग इनके साथ फोटो खिंचवा सकते हैं . यह खुशी खुशी सब के साथ फोटो खिंचवा रहे हैं.

यह स्टाल इरान के लोगों का है, गेट पर यह महोदय पारम्परिक लिबास में खड़े हैं. अंदर इरान के कालीन और शिल्प कला की चीजें बिक्री के लिए रखी हैं. कालीन के ऊपर काफी आकर्षक डिजाईन बने हैं , काफी लोग इसको पसंद कर रहें हैं .

इस फोटो में आप कैनेडा के मूल बाशिंदों को देख सकते हैं, यह इनका पारम्परिक घर है. कुछ लकड़ी के डंडे खड़े किये और उसके इर्दगिर्द एक कपड़ा लपेटा और घर त्यार. यह अपने आप को नेटिव या ऐबओर्जिनल कहलाना पसंद करते हैं. सब से पहले यह लोग ही कैनेडा आये थे.

इस स्टाल पर घाना का नाच चल रहा है, यह जोड़ी देख कर नहीं लगता नाचना इनके बस का है शायद गीत संगीत बजा कर लोगों का मनोरंजन कर रहे हैं, नीचे वाली फोटो में मार्शल आर्ट दिखाया जा रहा है, काफी बहादुरी से मुकाबला चल रहा है, यह लेडी आसानी से पुरुष को पटक देती है.

यह रशिया की स्टेज है, यह नाच का कौन सा स्टेप है, काफी प्रेक्टिस के बाद ही इसे किया जा सकता है, रशिया के लोगों को काफी महारत हासिल है पर बाद में दूसरे नर्तक दल ने आसान न्रत्य पेश किया काफी अच्छा लग रहा है .

जी हाँ यह मेम कोल्ड ड्रिंक और काफी बेच रही हैं, आप इनकी पर्सनलिटी देख सकते हैं, जर्मनी मूल की हैं, कैनेडा से बाहर जा कर खरीददारी करने पर कुछ मिस्सिंग लगता हैं, इनका सामान बेचेने का सलीका भी अत्यंत प्रोफेसनल है, एक बार ग्राहक आया तो कुछ ना कुछ खरीद कर ही जायेगा.

कोरिया और हांगकांग के नर्तक अपना कमाल दिखा रहे हैं, ढोल हर नाच में होता है बस शेप बदल जाती है, अनोखी बात है हर नर्तक का अपना ढोल है, हमारे पंजाब में तो एक ही ढोल होता है और वह नर्तक और दर्शक सभी का भांगड़ा डलवा देता है. पर इस दल के पास सब का अपना अलग ढोल है. ढोल अलग अलग शेप में हर जगह पाए जाते हैं, पर खूबसूरत लगते हैं.

यह स्टाल थाईलैंड का है. थाईलैंड का मसाज बहुत मशहूर है जहाँ पर फूट मसाज किया जा रहा है. देखने पर तो कोई खास नहीं लग रहा, भारत में बार्बर जो चम्पी करते हैं वह कहीं वेहतर लगता है, पर शायद चम्पी को मार्केटिंग की जरुरत है, और एक बार मशहूर हो गया तो काफी टूरिस्ट आ सकते हैं. यह मेडम तरबूज को चक्कू से कई तरह के डिजाईन दे रहीं हैं, और भी कई फल ख़ूबसूरती से काट कर रखे हैं. कला की हर जगह कदर है.

thanks for introducing to the cultural traditions of different societies of the world. If you really see this entire post with wider perspective you will find in spite of the language and cultural barriers the concept of Vasudeva Kuttumbkam is visible in most of the photographs. We are one is something that I could see through this beautiful picturisation. Of course the vibrancy of colours of Vibrant India is more apparent and being Indian we do look at it with bit of bias (let me be honest). Ofcourse the number of visitors does support the fact that India is one of the most versatile and sought after country and the world do look at us with lots of hope …… thanks once again for all the efforts

We Indian have a great culture and we have to be proud on it. As Kumbh mela is biggest in world and I do not think anybody can give exact answer when it was started.
The Edmonton Heritage Festival has been organized by the Edmonton Heritage Festival Association since 1976, eleven cultural communities combined their resources to hold a one-day display of their traditional dances, foods, and crafts. Now it is three days celebration. So many time it aired on Discovery Channel.

Thanks, Surinder, for taking us to the Heritage Festival. It is a lovely occasion for the immigrant communities of Canada to showcase the culture of their home countries. Gratifying to see that the Indian stalls attracted a lot of attention. Reminded me of my days in Kuwait where we would have such melas every year and there were separate stalls for the various states of India. It was a truly amazing experience.

All the Indian states which you left in Kuwait are here in Edmonton. But only one stall is allowed as India. Reason more than 185 countries people reside in Canada and it is hard to give represetation to all countries. But on stage groups from our every state from India present their performances.
In India we have great resources i.e. our Population, Natural resources , Culture but we need certificaiton from west. Thanks a lot for your valuable comment.

Yes, fairs are fairs and every fair has its own charm and attraction.
I still love to be there at my village during ‘Rath-er mela” (Rath Yatra) or “Jhulan Mela” (during Janmastami) or various other melas i.e. fairs.
In rural bengal, we celebrate ‘Ghosto’ for the entire month of Baisakh, starting from Paila Baisakh (14/15 th of April) and we were eagerly waiting for that period, as recreation things were very very limited and I miss all of them. Thank you once again for such lovely post. Keep writing.
