Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand, popularly called as Dev Bhoomi. This state was created in the year 2000, after separating Himalaya & North West part of Uttar Pradesh. Since formation, the state has seen a lot of development. Dehradun, being the state capital, has become a major Administrative, education as well business destination.
I had travelled many times to Dehradun & have stayed in various hotels. This time, I stayed in Hotel Saffron Leaf & am sharing my review about it with fellow Ghumakkars.
Most of the hotels in Dehradun are situated at 1 main road, which starts from ISBT at Delhi Road & reaches Rajpur via Saharanpur Chowk, Railway Station, Prince Chowk, Mussorie Stand (Old bus stand), Ghantaghar chowk & a long stretch of Rajpur Road. This entire route is too dense now & you can face a big traffic jam on many intersections. This makes travelling through this road very difficult. Hence, I was searching a new hotel, away from this traffic. & my search ended at Hotel Saffron Leaf.
This hotel is situated on GMS Road, which connects Transport Nagar to Ballupur Chowk. The road is mainly used as a Bye pass of Dehradun city & has comparatively lesser traffic & noise. The hotel is newly built with approx 40 Rooms in 3 categories.
Corporate tariff starts from Rs. 3500 (inclusive of Taxes, wifi & breakfast). The hotel has sufficient parking space, so if you are travelling with own car, no tension of parking it in unsafe places. There is a banquet hall at Ground floor, which is mostly occupied by parties marriages. Fortunately, the rooms are situated at 2nd floor onwards, hence disturbance from banquet is nil.
Rooms are spacious with all modern amenities like Big king size bed, LED TV, Tea Coffee maker in room, Mini Bar, Electronic Safe, etc. Bed is very comfortable & ensures a good sleep for guest. Wifi is very fast & available without any interruption.
Food preparation is very nice & Menu has lots of varieties in it. Room service is very prompt. Attitude is staff is customer friendly & they are always ready to help.
Breakfast is served in their restaurant at 1st floor. There is big variety of Indian as well as continental dishes. The restaurant staff is also eager to help you for any special requirement, beyond the breakfast spread. Check-in and check out is very fast. 2 – 3 people are always available at reception, in case there are multiple guests checking in / out at the same time.

Room Tips:
Try to take Mussorie view rooms. There is a beautiful view of green Mussorie hills from there. Also, there is big empty ground on this side, with a beautiful nursery next to it. View on this side is very pleasant.
The rooms on the other side has a view of rooftop of nearby houses.

Continue travelling towards Saharanpur Chowk till Krishi Mandi. Take left turn (Big Sign board says left turn towards Chakrata). Travel for some 600 meters & take right turn. This road is JMS Road. Keep travelling for approx 1 Km & Hotel is situated on right side & easily visible.

Ratings:
I rate this hotel at 4.5 on a scale of 5. Bit heavy on the pocket but 1 of the very few hotels in Dehradun which matches this standard of hospitality.
All the best!!
Nice post Pravesh. The hotel really seems to be luxurious and cozy. Informative narration and beautiful pictures….
Thanks,
Why all these black and beige sterile, sharp-edged hotels in India? We come to see the beautiful colors. Use your wonderful textiles in your decor!
I’ve always been puzzled why upholstery is so drab there, usually brown.
Thank you Pravesh. In a city like Dehradoon, at INR 3500 per night, this hotel seem like a good value for money.
