Hello People,
After a good response from you guys, I’m writing my second post.If you all have not read my first post then do check it out here “http://bit.ly/pjoFcB”.
After visiting the very beautiful city of Trivandrum,we proceeded for Kanyakumari, which is hardly 85-90 Kms from Trivandrum. The town is a popular tourist place in India. Kanyakumari takes its name from the Kumari Amman or Kanyakumari Temple, situated in the town, on the sea-shore, the very confluence of the three water-bodies – the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean.
On the way, one may find many tourist destinations like Padmanabhapuram Palace (50 Kms. from Trivandrum). If you come near Trivandrum, then don’t forget to visit the Palace. Its really worth visiting. The palace was constructed around 1601 CE by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal.
The complex also has a museum attached to it which is really interesting to discover.
Then,we moved to see the very famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Thiruvalluvar Statue. Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a sacred monument and popular tourist attraction in Vavathurai, Kanyakumari, India. The memorial stands on one of two rocks located about 500 meters off mainland of Vavathurai, India’s southernmost tip. It was built in 1970 by the Vivekananda Rock Memorial Committee in honour of the visit of the great spiritual teacher Swami Vivekananda to Shripada Parai during the month of December 1892 for deep meditation and enlightenment.
The Thiruvalluvar Statue is a 133 feet (40.5 m) tall stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and saint Tiruvalluvar, author of the Thirukkura.
To enter The rock Memorial, firstly, you have to stand a long queue. Our turn came in just 2 hours!!!!! Guys, it’s a really really long queue. Then, you need to buy a ticket for Ferry (Since the memorial is on an Island, you are taken by a Ferry). The cost of Ticket is 20 Rupees. As Soon as you reach the memorial, you need to shed out another 10 Rs as an entry charge. I must say that the place was really clean. The rock memorial is a good place and you will be pleased to see the View from the same.
As soon as you are back to the market place, you may proceed for Kanyakumari temple. Its a good temple, not so good, but don’t miss it. The Restaurants we found were mostly Dosa points. I just loved the dosa, and even today, my taste buds can remember the taste.
The sun was about to set and we were about to return to Kanyakumari but there are many other tourist destinations which you all may cover like Vattakottai Fort, Gandhi Mandapam, Suchindrum Temple & Baywatch Amusement Park.
I hope you all enjoyed reading yet another part of my journey.
