Read MoreLocated at the foot of the Western Ghats, Palakkad in Kerala is a multifaceted tourist destination. The scenic beauty is varied as paddy fields, dense tropical forests, hills and dams combine here to welcome tourists. There is much to see and many things to do in Palakkad. Nature lovers can bask in the emerald enchantments of Palakkad while boating near Malampuzha dam and Kanjirapuzha, going on Wildlife Safaris in Parambikulam, witnessing true Tribal life at Attapady hills. Adventure seekers can go a step further than picnic goers and experience trekking, paragliding and other adventure sports at Nelliyampathy. For a walk on the wild side are Silent Valley National Park, Dhoni reserve forest, Choolanur Peacock Sanctuary, JP Smirthivanam & Deer Park and Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary.
Palakkad Fort built by Haider Ali (Tipu Sultans father) is a proud reminder of the history and culture of the city. This granite fort is situated at the centre of the city and is an important landmark. Other historical sites are Sulthan Bathery and Kollengode palace. Jain temple, Kalpathy temple, Pattambi Mosque, Thenkurussi and Thiruvalathoor Shiva Temple are important religious sites, some of them ancient and known for their beautifully wrought sculptures and architecture. Palakkad is well connected by road and by railways and is a good choice for a quick weekend getaway as well as for a rejuvenating Ayurvedic spa experience.
