We 3 friends, although in our core group we are 5 but we 3 always ready for a trip or do some ghumakkaris. Again as per custom we have also asked the other two of our sweet friends for a trip to vaishnodevi but as always they cancel the plan first even before we make it but not always, only in 99/100 times they do indulge in cancellations. So in the end we 3 were ready as always to go to vaishnodevi we had our tickets booked and everything was planned. But unfortunately our plan to vaishnodevi got cancelled due to an external event because of riots in Jammu. which was quite embarrassing for us, why embarrassing because once you book your tickets you tend to tell everyone about the trip, you take holidays from the office, you tried to convince your gharwalas and not going to a trip would amount to gross embarrassment due to social pressures I must admit.
But again irrespective of everything we were trying to decide upon our alternative destinations and that of course by car. It was 4 am in the morning the car was ready, friends were ready we had our bags packed I picked my friends from their respective places. Then whats the irony was we have not yet decided where to go…At 4 am in the morning lot of heated argument was happening in the car, In the end it was decided we go to Kasauli, Knowing the fact or maybe a prejudice that kasauli has nothing to offer its a dead hill station and we would be wasting the money. With so many negative sentiments we decided to go there as we were confused on that morning.
Actually real thrill of a great travel starts with confusion and to have a great thrilling trip one should not plan as planning eludes the thrill in the trip. So this was the plan which was made at 4am in the morning with so much confusion which added the thrill in the trip. So at about 4:15 am we finally departed.
So we reached murthal quite fast, our favourite Sunday morning breakfast destination. But since we were having a long haul journey and not to have breakfast and return back. But still we had a cup of tea there. We decided to go and have our breakfast at Jhilmil Dhaba in Karnal.
We decided to go and have our breakfast at Jhilmil Dhaba in Karnal.
We reached chandigarh, From there we can see the shivalik ranges on a newly started Himalayan Expressway. The Himalayan Expressway is the road which connects Chandigarh to Shimla is a newly built expressway and driving here is like a treat. Wonderful road with wonderful view.
Finally we reached our destination Kasauli after a 7 hour wonderful road journey, which made us more energetic. The only motivation about this trip was that we would detox our soul with this trip. Which was actually we were experiencing. Though Kasauli is a small town and is about 12 kms from Dharampur. You have to change the route from Dharampur, which is on Chandigarh Shimla highway. It is small town which is actually a cantonment.
As soon we have checked in the hotel we had a quick lunch there. We did not relax in the room and were quite excited to explore the town. As the serene environment of kasauli inspired us to explore. The best thing about kasauli was that you don’t have to use car and you can reach the points like the sunset point, sunrise point, market on foot. Which is the key to enjoy this hill station, there is no chaotic jams like Shimla. The best thing is that you walk and detox.
We reached sunset point which is 1 km walk from our hotel in the lush green serene path. Clouds covering and enriching the skin, vitalizing every part of body and again filling the body with so much energy and enthusiasm that the nothing this hill station offers become everything. We treaked on uncharted paths and explored the silence and the exhilaration that nature has to offer, away from stresses and tension. We thought that it would be a boring experience when we departed from Delhi, but actually it has turned out to be among the most cherished experiences till date.
Sitting at sunset point for 3-4 hours is like a treat to your mind. After watching the sunset, which actually was not visible due to fog, we returned back to main market area. The market is small; Kasuli has a smallest mall area than any of the hill stations we have visted. But it is one of cleanest malls.
For the next two days we only did long walks and enjoyed the serene environment of Kasauli, which actually cannot be expressed in words and only can be experienced. There is a church in kasauli which has a huge complex. So one can again sit and relax there and feel the quietness. In the morning one can go to mankey point which is around 2 kms from the main town. There is a Hanuman temple and magnificent view of chandigarh and nearby town from the top of this point.
The restaurants in Kasauli are not good for their food. With so few restaurants eating out is a big problem here. Especially for foodie people like us. But again the non-chaotic environment fulfils this lacuna.
Finally the day was here when we had to leave back the serene and quite Kasauli. Which we did not want to but we had to.On our way back we reached timber trail resort. Which has India longest timber trail trolley.
It is mandatory to have a ride in this trolley and experience the lush green mountain ranges.
Finally we were back to Chandigarh had a lunch at Gazal restraunt at sector 17 market, which offers an awesome food which we haven’t had for so many days. After lunch A good walk at Sukhna lake refreshes the memory of Kasauli which we will miss.

By not having any plans, you were able to reach Kasauli in good 7 hours. I am sure if you would have planned, you would go to Leh easily.

Hi Nitish,
Your writing style is good. Like you said, hills do vitalize us by taking away the city stress.
In photos we want more nature and less humans!
Great writeup, could relate to several of my trips to the beautiful hill-station. In fact had written a post about the food scene there, hope it would help the readers.
Very well crafted my dear friend .. I am a nature lover too and post reading the article, I have planned to go to a nearby Hill station.. I reside in Chandigarh only ..
