Last year in March’09 we decided to visit Dehradun. We planned to go by our own car. Dehradun is about 250 Km from our place.
No. of adults – Four
1. Myself – The solo driver
2. My mother
3. My father
4. My great grand mother
My car – Maruti 800
Total distance covered in the trip – 575 Km
From Delhi we started from Rohini at 4 am. We crossed the bypass and went straight towards Wazirabad. Then we turned towards Ghaziabad. We followed our same old route. We reached Ghaziabad at around 5:15 am as in the morning roads were empty. Till now it was NH-24. Now we turned towards NH-58 and reached Meerut by 5:45 am. Now we headed towards Khatauli. We crossed Khatauli by 6:30 am and we were till now right time. We took the Muzaffarnagar Byepass and headed towards Roorkee. From roorkee we turned left towards Chutmalpur and then again right on NH-72 towards Dehradun.
That time the road conditions were not upto the mark with lots of Construction work going on. We finally reached Dehradun at 12pm.
After reaching there we took rest at our Grandparents home. They stay at Rajpur road. In the evening we visited the Paltan Bazaar.
Day-1 just ended.
DAY-2
PLACES WE VISETED THAT DAY –
TAPKESHWAR TEMPLE
Tapkeshwar Shiv Temple is an ancient place of worship and is situated on the banks of a rivulet, in the Garhi Cantt Area. 5.5 Kms from the city bus stand. It is named Tapkeshwar as water droplets, originating from a rock, fall on the Shivling placed in the shrine
SAHASTRA DHARA
Sahasratra Dhara, laterally meaning, the ‘thousand fold spring’ is situated at a distance of 11 kms. from Dehra Dun.The water here has a fall of about 9 metres. Really enjoyed there.
LAXMAN SIDH
The place is situated 12 Kms. Away from Dehradun towards Hardwar/Rishikesh . on the Haridwar road. The temple is really beautiful.
SAI TEMPLE
Situated 8 Kms along the Clock Tower on Rajpur Road, is the Sai Darbar Temple. This place has a high cultural and spiritual value .
Day-2 ended.

Itz true sanjay ji…
Been to Doon a lot of times, mostly because a close friend’s home is there. Even after multiple visits, I haven’t been to Shahastra Dhara :-).
I also wrote a small account on my last trip.

Ellora Bakery is a popular joint to stock on breads-n-baked items, folks also buy good rice. Being the capital city, Doon enjoys good funds and boasts of a cleaner city with a presence of all the up-market labels. It can be a good one-night stopover on your long vacation to Mussorrie and beyond.
Mr nandan,
As we go to Doon every 3 months, we always visit Shastra Dhara as it is really a very refreshing picnic spot, you should try visiting it atleat once.
And the Bakeries – Yes the Ellora Bakery is famous. There is one more bakery named “Sunrise Bakery”. It is one of the best in Doon.
Sahil
My favorite place is robbers cave.
There is one more famous bakery “GRAND BAKERY” :-)
Yes Mahesh Ji,
Grand Bakery is also very good.
