BINSAR - Best place in Uttaranchal at a comfortable distance

August 06, 2008 By: Anand Category: Hills, Uttarakhand 8 Comments →

INTRODUCTION : For those people who are tired of crowded hill stations like Shimla, Mussoorie, Manali etc., the thickly wooded forest of BINSAR with loads of GREENERY and CRISP MOUNTAIN AIR to soothe your eyes, body and soul is the best place to go. It is indeed very, very green and at 2100-2400 m height is cool enough to keep you fresh all day. Although i have been here 2-3 times before in smaller groups, this time in the month of August, I had taken 12 family members in three cars, all belonging to different age group - from 6 months to 64 years old and BINSAR did not disappoint any one. In fact it is one of our most memorable family trips and is very much recommended for romantic couples as well as loners, writers and nature lovers.

SHOJA near GHNP in HIMACHAL

August 06, 2008 By: Anand Category: Hills, Himachal Pradesh, StatesOfIndia, Theme 5 Comments →

INTRODUCTION : Shoja is a beautiful village situated in the relatively lesser explored regions of Himachal Pradesh called the Seraj Valley/ Great Himalayan National Park. Its very green and the plus is that it is away from all the traffic that lines up the popular hill stations. Added attraction is that you can cover the places like Gushaini & Bathad on the Tirthan river in the same trip which are not very far but are very beautiful. Please read through the lines to get a better picture.

LOCATION/ HOW TO REACH : Shoja is located about 500 kms from Delhi. The place is on the periphery of the Great Himlayan National Park and is 5 kms from Jalori Pass which forms the boundary between Shimla Hills and Kullu Hills. There are two routes to reach Shoja - 1st is from Delhi - Chandigarh - Ropar - Bilaspur - Mandi - Aut - Banjar - Shoja.

This first post is about the roads from DELHI to MORI and back. Based on surveys done on several websites, we finalized two routes for Mori. While going, we took the route from Delhi – Pipli – Yamunanagar – Paonta Sahib – Sataun – Minus – Tiuni – Mori and on the return trip we took the route Mori – Purola – Nainbag – Vikasnagar – Saharanpur – Baghpat – Shamli – Panipat – Delhi. Needless to say, the return route was much better – good roads as well as more scenic. Here I present the details of the route :

Delhi – Mori
We drove a Brand new Maruti Swift VDI – the famed diesel engine and started on afternoon of Thursday, 29th May. That was because all the roads in NCR were blocked due to the Gujjar agitation. Even though the Delhi – Amritsar highway was shown closed in the news flash at 2:15 PM, we decided to take the risk and departed at 2:30 PM. Here are the timings and KM readings for the trip ………
