Satvik Resort, Bhimtal

March 25, 2008 By: akshaya Category: Hills, Hotel, Uttarakhand 5 Comments →

I visited The Satvik Resort, Bhimtal with my family and my in-laws during 29 Sep – 1 Oct 2007. We traveled from Delhi to Rampur through train and from there on we hired a cab. The road from Rampur to Rudrapur is pretty bad – full of potholes especially around Bilaspur. But after that, it is quite smooth. We got stuck in a traffic jam due to mud slide just after Haldwani (and eventually covered Rampur – Bhimtal distance in 7 hours), it was a respite to reach Satvik Resort and be greeted with herbal tea and warm home cooked food.

The Satvik Resort is a no-fuss, no-frill resort founded by Yoga Guru Pulak Ranjan Shukla. The USP is ‘experience of Satvik lifestyle’. It offers complete peace as it is half-a-kilometer before Bhimtal. The rooms are airy, well maintained, simple-yet-elegant and clean. We were pretty happy to find our rooms very clean and the bathrooms spacious plus clean. This is one thing which I personally like a lot in a hotel/resort.

Canterbury, the Cathedral Town

On the way to Geneva to visit our daughter who was doing a project there, we planned to include a three day sojourn at London.

After visiting the usual tourist places - Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, “London Eye”, Harrods and Selfridges, on September 30th, the penultimate day of our visit, we started early morning for Canterbury, one of England’s most beautiful cathedral cities. Surprisingly, this small town with a population of around 45,000 is country’s second most visited town (over 2 M tourists visit every year). The cathedral is the focal point of a compact town centre, which is enclosed on three sides by medieval walls.

A Boat Ride to Elephanta Islands

March 21, 2008 By: Cuckoo Category: Historical, Maharashtra 6 Comments →

Air, earth and water.
Three most important basic necessities that mankind needs to survive. Besides, if in mood, these can give immense pleasure to us. So, after taking you to pleasant journeys through the air (parasailing) and the earth (the metro), now it is turn to turn to waters.

Let me take you to a boat ride to Elephanta Islands.

The Elephanta Island is the site of the magnificent Elephanta caves, one of the principal tourist attractions of the Mumbai city containing beautiful carvings, sculptures, and a temple to the Hindu God, Lord Shiva. It also has traces of early Buddhist culture and is now designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the Lap of Nature - Jim Corbett National Park

March 20, 2008 By: Patrick Jones Category: Jungle, Uttarakhand 11 Comments →

Succumbing to intense pressure from friends to join us on our trips, I have decided to let go of the Wheel and be among friends on our next visit.

The wild always has a special place in my heart; the smell and colours of the forest, music of a rivulet, sights of chirpy birds and wild animals roaming around freely in their natural habitat - it has an exciting aura to it. So visiting Jim Corbett National Park in the state of Uttaranchal was something I was looking forward to for quite some time.
